What is the Measurement Tool?
The measurement tool is located within the 3D tour of an iGUIDE. This tool can help measure vertical and horizontal spaces within the tour, and give you measurement estimates while using the 3D tour.
What is Measurement Mode 1?
Measurement Mode 1 is the first default mode when selecting the Measurement Tool. This mode will allow you to make horizontal measurements on the floor plans of the 3D tour. Below are the steps to use Measurement Mode 1.
- Open the 3D tour you wish to use the Measurement Tool.
- Click on the measurement tool icon on the bottom of the screen.
- Click and drag a line on the floor plans for what you want to measure.
- Once you let go of the line with your cursor, the measurement will generate on the line made on the floor plans.
What is Measurement Mode 2?
Measurement Mode 2 is used to help measure vertical and horizontal spaces on the 3D tour using the visuals instead of the floor plans. Below are the steps on how to use Measurement Mode 2.
- Open the 3D tour you wish to use the Measurement Tool.
- Click on the measurement tool icon on the bottom of the screen.
- Click on the measurement tool icon again to select mode 2.
- Click and drag a line on the floor plans of where you wish to make your measurements.
- Double-click on the first spot you would like to measure from, and then do the same on the second spot you would like to measure from.
- In between the two spots a measurement will be generated.
What is Measurement Mode 3?
Measurement Mode 3 is used to triangulate a measurement in the 3D tour using multiple viewpoints in the tour to calculate the measurement for more accuracy. Below are the steps on how to use Measurement Mode 3.
- Open the 3D tour you wish to use the Measurement Tool.
- Click on the measurement tool icon on the bottom of the screen.
- Click on the measurement tool icon again to select mode 3.
- Double-click on the first spot you would like to measure from, and then do the same on the second spot you would like to measure from. A line will appear between those 2 points with "???" Attached to it.
- Then move to another viewpoint on the 3D tour where you can view those points you created in step 4.
- From this new viewpoint, double-click on the first spot you would like to measure from again, and then do the same on the second spot you would like to measure from. A line will appear between those 2 points with the measurement attached to it. You will also be able to go between the viewpoints to look at the measurement too.
Considerations when Using Measurement Modes
To minimize measurement uncertainty and improve accuracy, keep the following in mind when capturing:
Lens positioning: Always aim the lens toward the walls or objects you expect to measure. The direction of the lens directly affects measurement accuracy.
Scan placement: Position scans at equal distances from the objects you want to measure to reduce uncertainty.
Triangle method for Measurement Mode 3: Ensure you capture at least two scans that form a "triangle" with the object being measured, ideally aligned along the same line.
Extra scans: Take more scans than may be needed for drafting. Additional scans provide better support for measurement modes, especially when working with walls.
Room size: Break larger rooms into smaller sections with more scan points to improve measurement reliability.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
How come I can't see the measurement tool at all on I 3D tour?
- The iGUIDE may have the advanced option "Hide on-screen measure feature" turned on. If it is you can go to the Edit View page of the iGUIDE on the portal to turn it off.
