How to Update the R1 & Theta Firmware

Overview

This section will provide step-by-step instructions on how to update your R1& Theta firmware.

Before You Begin

• Make sure your R1 Camera's battery life is above 25%.

Updating your R1 Camera

Step 1: Turn on the PLANIX App and connect to your R1 camera. 

Step 2: If a Firmware update is available, you will receive a prompt notifying you that a new firmware update is available.

Step 3: Select "ok" and the camera will update itself. Once it is fully updated, you will be notified by another prompt. 

Updating your R1 Theta X Firmware

You can now update your R1 Theta X firmware directly from the PLANIX app. You will receive a notification when there is a new update available. 

Step 1: Turn on the PLANIX App and connect to your R1 Camera

Step 2: Click the three dots beside your camera serial number

Step 3: Click on "Update Theta-X firmware:. There will be two options available for your Firmware update

• Download Now
  • This will begin the download process immediately and take up to 30 minutes to complete. 
  • Ensure you follow all prompts on your screen to complete the update
• Download Overnight
  • This will prompt the download to occur overnight.

Please note: The overnight download requires the mobile device to have an active Wi-Fi connection at the scheduled time, and have enough free-space for the file (file size is ~700 MB). If it fails either check, then manual download will be required.

Step 4: Once the download is complete, you can proceed to using your camera as normal 

Troubleshooting

Issue: What if I want to postpone the firmware update? 
Solution: You can simply select "Cancel" when the prompt to update the firmware comes up, and you will be able to use the camera without the firmware update.

Issue: What do I do if the firmware failed? 
Solution: If the firmware failed, we do recommend calling our Support line to help troubleshoot.
