How to Update the R1 & Theta Firmware

Overview

Keeping your R1 camera and Theta X firmware up to date ensures reliable performance, access to the latest features, and compatibility with the PLANIX app. Updates are delivered directly through the PLANIX app, with both immediate and overnight download options available for the Theta X.

This process helps operators maintain consistent capture quality and avoid disruptions during scans, ensuring every iGUIDE project benefits from the most stable and current camera software available.

Before You Begin

1. Confirm your R1 camera battery is above 25%
2. Ensure the PLANIX app is installed and ready to connect
3. For Theta X overnight updates, verify your mobile device has active Wi-Fi and at least 700 MB of free storage

Updating your R1 Camera

1. Open the PLANIX app and connect to your R1 camera
2. When a firmware update is available, a prompt will appear automatically.

3. Tap OK to begin the update
4. Wait for the confirmation prompt indicating the update is complete.

Updating Your R1 Theta X Firmware

1. Open the PLANIX app and connect to your R1 camera
2. Tap the three dots beside your camera's serial number.
3. Select Update Theta-X firmware.

4. Choose one of the two download options:
   • Download Now — begins immediately and takes up to 30 minutes; follow all on-screen prompts.
   • Download Overnight — schedules the download overnight, requiring active Wi-Fi and ~700 MB of free space.
5. Once the download is complete, resume using your camera as normal.

Troubleshooting

Issue: What if I want to postpone the firmware update? 
Solution: You can simply select "Cancel" when the prompt to update the firmware comes up, and you will be able to use the camera without the firmware update.

Issue: What do I do if the firmware failed? 
Solution: If the firmware failed, we do recommend calling our Support line to help troubleshoot.
