Overview
Follow these steps to efficiently process your iGUIDE project using Stitch. This guide covers a variety of features like how to open a project, manage panoramas, align data, and export your work for upload to the iGUIDE Portal.
In This Article
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
- A Windows or macOS computer with Stitch installed.
- Your project folder copied locally.
Opening Your Project in Stitch
- Launch Stitch.
- Click the folder icon (far left) in the top menu.
- Select your entire project folder (not individual floor folders) and click Open.
Tip: If you accidentally click into a subfolder, go back and select the main project folder instead.
Stitch Features
Turning Pano's On or Off
- Panoramas are active by default in Stitch but can be turned off if not needed in the final iGUIDE.
-
To deactivate a pano in Stitch, either:
- Middle-click the pano in the Project Explorer, or
- Right-click the scan and select “Hide in iGUIDE” from the context menu.
- Deactivated panos appear in red and their dots on the floor plan become hollow.
- If you forget to disable a pano in Stitch, you can also do it later in the iGUIDE Portal after publishing.
Set the Initial Pano and Angle
- Choose the pano that will be the first view users see in the iGUIDE tour.
- To set this, right-click the desired pano and select “Set as initial pano.”
- Initial Angle: Optional—set a specific viewing direction within a pano.
- Click the “Set initial pano angle” button, then left-click the desired view direction in the pano.
-
Visual Indicators:
- Blue box = selected angle for a pano
- Orange box = selected angle for the initial pano
- Changes Are Flexible: You can update the initial pano and angle later in the iGUIDE Portal after publishing.
Important: Setting an initial pano is required before exporting the project from Stitch.
Add Notes for Drafters
- Use the Notes tool to leave instructions or highlight issues for the drafting team.
- This allows you to add a note on-screen in the laser data area, this is convenient if operators want a room to be given a specific name
Add User or Drone Panos
Stitch allows you to enhance your iGUIDE tour by adding custom panoramas—such as drone shots or 360° images captured with other devices.
- These are panoramas not captured by the iGUIDE camera system. They can be imported into Stitch and manually placed on the floor plan.
- User panos do not include laser scan data, so they won’t contribute to measurements or navigation arrows.
The steps for creating a user pano are outlined below:
- Open the iGUIDE data in Stitch and right-click on the floor that the pano needs to show up on. Then select the option "Add user pano".
- A window will pop up giving a prompt to choose an image to upload. Select the image that will show up within this user pano.
- Once the image has been chosen a prompt will appear to set the position and the rotation of the pano. Make sure it is exactly where it needs to be.
- While they don’t connect to other panos via navigation arrows, they are accessible in the tour.
- The most common use for user panos is for 360° drone photography. These drone panoramas show the property from above and much of the surrounding area.
- Another use for user panos could be for points of interest. Similar to aerials, a pano could be taken in a local area that the photographer wants to highlight close to the property (i.e. park, playground, tennis court etc).
NOTE: Any image can be chosen, but user panos are intended for panoramic images so standard images will look very distorted. The ratio for the image should be 2:1 (width to height) and a maximum of 7200x3600 pixels. If it is not, black bars will be inserted at the edges to make up the proper ratio.
Adjust Ceiling Height and Enable Vertical Measuring
Vertical measurement for ceiling height is now possible in Stitch. This data can be exported from Stitch and will appear in the iGUIDE report. To get the best results, use a panorama with a clear and unobstructed view of the wall in both the image and laser data. Choose a wall that is flat from the top to the bottom, where the laser data is not noisy or changes surfaces, and that is not too far from the camera (ideally about 4ft/120cm).
To measure this:
-
Switch to Move mode:
- Double-click the top position of the desired wall on the panorama preview image. A red cross will appear on the image to indicate the chosen position.
- Double-click the bottom position of the desired wall on the panorama preview image. A red cross will appear on the image to indicate the chosen position.
- Save the measurement as the floor’s ceiling height if desired.
You can measure ceiling heights as many times as you like. Any subsequent measurements that are taken and saved will overwrite the previously saved value. The ceiling height can also be adjusted manually by clicking on the floor name and entering a value for Ceiling Height under Settings.
Use the Drawing Tool
The Drawing Tool in Stitch helps users align scan data more accurately by allowing them to draw reference lines directly on the laser data. These lines act as visual guides—ideal for tracing long walls or structural features to assist with alignment.
- Activate the tool via the toolbar or by pressing L on your keyboard.
- Hold Shift to display yellow guide lines while drawing.
- Click once to start a line, and again to finish it—repeat as needed.
- Pressing and holding the CTRL or CMND key will allow you to click and drag to select multiple reference lines and highlight or delete them by pressing the delete key.
- Reference lines are saved within the project but are not included in the exported .tar file.
- Lines remain visible across floors using the underlay feature, making multi-floor alignment easier.
Setting and Applying Presets in Stitch
Presets in Stitch allow you to save custom image adjustments—like brightness or contrast tweaks—and apply them consistently across multiple panoramas. This helps streamline your workflow and maintain visual consistency, especially after using the Auto Color feature.
Saving Presets:
- Open Stitch and click the wizard hat icon (or press A) to access image adjustments.
- Open an image; first, click "Reset" beside equalize. Afterward, you can change the temperature, brightness, contrast, and saturation according to the offsets you want to be applied on top of Planitar's Auto Color corrections.
- Save your adjustments to one of three preset slots for reuse.
Applying Presets:
- Always click Auto Color first to restore Planitar’s default settings before applying a preset.
- Select your preset and click Load to apply it to the current pano.
Presets Only work when applied on top of Planitar's auto adjustments (which are always applied automatically by default). If you have reset or made any adjustments, Auto Color should be clicked before applying a preset. However, with an R1 system, the image processing takes place when you first take the image, so Auto Color does not need to be pressed.
- Use Next Pano to move through images and apply the preset as needed.
- Use Paste to All cautiously—it only works if all panos are still on default settings.
-
Auto Importing Presets:
- Go to Settings (shortcut W) and choose a preset to auto-apply when importing new projects.
- Avoid large adjustments or using presets repeatedly on the same image—this can reduce image quality
The preset you are saving is disconnected from what you see on the image. For example, if after clicking on the Auto Color button, you are provided with +15 in the brightness tab, and you personally need another +10 brightness added on (resulting in +25 brightness), you should set the brightness to +10. The Presets are to help you store the values you constantly add to the images after the Auto Coloring has been applied to reduce the time required to make the necessary changes.
Tips on Improving Image Quality within Stitch:
If your images appear to have a blue color cast—especially around windows—adjusting the white balance can help create a more natural look.
To adjust white balance in Stitch:
Click the Adjust Panoramas button (the wizard hat icon).
Select the Eyedropper Tool to change the global white balance.
Click on different areas of the image until you achieve a natural-looking balance. You may need to try a few spots to get the best result.
Reduce Excessive Blue Tones
If windows or other parts of the image still appear overly blue after adjusting the white balance, consider lowering the Blue Slider.
Note: Reducing the blue slider will affect all blue elements in the image, not just the window areas.
Merge Projects or Add Floors
Stitch allows you to combine scans or floors from different projects, but only under specific conditions. As of Stitch version 6.0, you cannot merge projects captured with different iGUIDE camera systems (i.e., different serial numbers). Doing so may corrupt your data or prevent the project from loading correctly.
Key Points:
- You can only merge projects if all scans were captured using the same iGUIDE camera (same serial number).
- If you accidentally create multiple projects for the same property or return to collect more data, create a new project to avoid corrupting the original.
- Use Windows Explorer or Mac Finder to copy scan or floor folders from one project into another.
-
Folder Structure Matters:
- Scan folders must be inside a floor folder.
- Floor folders must be inside the main project folder.
- Rename folders if there are naming conflicts to ensure uniqueness.
Creating a New Floor
To add a new floor in Stitch:
- Right-click on the building where you want to add the floor.
- Select “Add Floor” from the menu.
- Once the new floor appears, you can rename it by clicking on its name.
Moving Panos to a different floor
-
Select the panos you want to move. You can:
- Hold Shift to select a range.
- Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) to select multiple individual panos.
- Once selected, drag and drop the panos into the desired floor.
Adding a New Building
In Stitch, you have the ability to create multiple buildings, each with its own set of floors and an independent perimeter wall thickness.
To add a new building:
Step 1: Right-click the project name in the Stitch interface
Step 2: Select Add Building
Step 3: Then, drag and drop floors or scans into the new building as needed
In the final iGUIDE, each building will display separate area totals, allowing for clear differentiation between structures.
Export Your Project
Once all edits and adjustments are complete in Stitch, the final step is to export your project so it can be uploaded to the iGUIDE Portal for processing.
Steps to Export:
- Click the second button from the left in the top menu to save your project before exporting.
- Click the third button from the left to begin the export process.
- If any errors appear, they must be resolved before the export can complete.
- Allow the export progress bar to reach 100%.
- The exported .TAR file will be saved in a new folder called _Export inside your project directory. Clicking "Create iGUIDE" will bring you directly to the exported folder.
Tips:
- Always double-check that your initial pano is set—this is required for export.
- Avoid renaming or moving files in the _Export folder before uploading to the Portal.
- If the export fails repeatedly, recheck pano settings, alignment, and scan folder structure.
Floor Properties
You can access and edit your floor properties by left-clicking on any floor title on the left-hand side of the screen in Stitch. In the floor properties, you will find the following options:
- Above/Below Grade: This option is to set the floor to Above Ground, which means the floor is above the exterior ground level of the property, or to set the floor to Below Ground, which means the floor is below the exterior ground level of the property, such as a basement.
- Exterior Wall Thickness: You can set the estimated exterior wall thickness here for the entire floor.
- Ceiling Height: You can set the estimated ceiling height of the entire floor here. Please note that the ceiling height measurement will only be shown in the iGUIDE's feature sheet, and not on the 3D tour/floorplans.
Underlay Floor View
1. Right click the floor name in the tree view (left panel).
2. Click "Set underlay floor" in the right-click menu. A floor selection dialog will appear.
3. In this dialog, select a floor (or select "None" as a floor to disable the underlay view for the current floor).
