How to Create a Project on the PLANIX App

Overview

Creating a project in the PLANIX app is the first step before capturing any scans for an iGUIDE. It's done from inside the Survey interface and lets Operators name their project, set exterior wall thickness, and add the first floor before beginning capture.

You can create a project in two ways: from the + button on the PLANIX app's main projects screen, or from the Project menu inside Survey. Both methods create the same project, so use whichever is more convenient.

This guide walks through how to launch Survey, open the project menu, and configure both the project and floor details, helping Operators set up each iGUIDE shoot quickly so they can move on to scanning a property without unnecessary delays in the field.

Before You Begin

  1. Connect to your camera through the PLANIX app
    1. PLANIX Pro: the + button is only available while the camera is connected
    2. PLANIX R1: once you've connected a camera, the + button remains available even when the camera is disconnected
  2. Prepare the property so it's photo-ready

Create a Project from the Projects Screen

  1. Open the PLANIX app and go to the main projects screen
  2. Tap the + button
  3. Enter the project name, fill in the exterior wall thickness (if known), and tap Create
  4. Enter the first floor's details, including the floor name, whether it is below grade, and whether it is a Vertical Scans floor, then tap Create
  5. Begin capturing scans for your project

Create a Project from Survey

  1. In the Devices section of the PLANIX app, tap the camera icon to open Survey 
  2. Tap the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left to open the Survey menu 
  3. Select Project 
  4. Enter the project name, fill in the exterior wall thickness (if known), and tap Create 
  5. Enter the first floor's details, including the floor name, whether it is below grade, and whether it is a Vertical Scans floor, then tap Create
  6. Begin capturing scans for your project

Troubleshooting

Issue: I don't see the + button on the projects screen.
Solution: Make sure the app is updated. Then, try connecting to your camera through the PLANIX app. With the PLANIX Pro, the + button only appears while the camera is connected. With the PLANIX R1, it appears once you've connected a camera at least once. You can also create a project from the Project menu inside Survey.

Issue: What if I don’t know the exterior wall thickness? 
Solution: You can always enter in the exterior wall thickness at a later time, even after the iGUIDE has been created and published on the portal. 

Issue: Can I name a project the same name as a previous project? 
Solution: You can but it is not advised as this may create complications when uploading to the portal.
